This is downtown Bellevue's first holiday season with a train across Lake Washington, and the train covers more hours than anything that meets it at the platform. Monday through Saturday, the 2 Line runs from 5 a.m. to midnight. The free shuttle waiting at Bellevue Downtown Station stops at 6 p.m. on weekdays and doesn't run on weekends at all. Snowflake Lane starts at 7 p.m., and Garden d'Lights lets in its last guests at 9 p.m. Each holiday evening downtown now comes down to which connection is still running when you need it.
A Season That Starts Earlier Than It Used To
Sound Transit opened the Crosslake Connection on Saturday, March 28, 2026. That finished one continuous 2 Line from Downtown Redmond to Lynnwood across the I-90 floating bridge, with transfers to the 1 Line at International District/Chinatown. The agency's 2026 progress report says boardings at the twelve stations served only by the 2 Line, including Bellevue Downtown, Wilburton and BelRed, more than doubled after the opening. Total monthly Link boardings grew by one million from March to April 2026.
Since Saturday, August 29, the train has been the main way between the two downtowns. That's when the fall service change discontinued ST Express Route 550, Bellevue's longtime Seattle bus. Sound Transit now lists the 2 Line and Route 556 as the alternatives.
The season opens this weekend with Diwali. The Bellevue Collection's Diwali week at Bellevue Square runs November 2 through 8. On Saturday, November 7, there's a free celebration with Center Court performances from noon to 5 p.m. and free henna from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., as reported by downtownbellevue.com. That's a Saturday afternoon, so the light rail shuttle won't be running, and the weekend clock this post keeps coming back to starts here.
What Runs When
| Connection | Hours | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| 2 Line light rail | 5 a.m. to midnight Mon–Sat, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sun | Bellevue Downtown, Wilburton, Seattle and beyond |
| Bellevue Light Rail Shuttle | Weekdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. | From Bellevue Downtown Station into the BellHop service area, one way |
| BellHop | Weekdays 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., weekends 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. | On-demand rides throughout downtown, booked through the Ride Circuit app |
Sound Transit's current 2 Line timetable is in effect from September 30, 2026, through March 26, 2027. Off-peak trains come every 10 minutes and late-night trains every 12 to 16 minutes. Visit Bellevue launched the shuttle on August 3 with two all-electric Volkswagen ID. BUZZ vans. Amazon and Visit Bellevue fund it as a pilot through December 2026. You don't need a reservation or an app. You tell the driver where you're going within the BellHop area. It only runs away from the station. For the trip back, Visit Bellevue's shuttle page sends riders to BellHop.
So the shuttle's hours match a weekday lunch or an afternoon errand. Snowflake Lane starts after it stops for the day, and so does nearly every hour that Garden d'Lights is open.
Before 6 p.m.: The Hours the Shuttle Covers
A weekday afternoon is the only time all three connections run. It's a good window for the dining that has opened near the station this year. Downtown Bellevue Network reported that MEAN Sandwich was moving into the second floor of Lincoln Square South at 500 Bellevue Way NE. It's the shop's second location after Ballard. On October 22, Seattle magazine covered its opening day. OAKBERRY opened in July in the Lincoln Square South Food Hall at the same address. Rooster & Rice opened that month at Soma Towers, 278 106th Avenue NE. Salt & Straw has been scooping at 10415 NE 4th Street since April.
Farther east, The Eight on NE 8th Street is becoming a dining address. Sabine Café & Bar opened there recently. On October 27, downtownbellevue.com reported that Sea Creatures, chef Renee Erickson's restaurant group, has signed a lease at The Eight. The concept and opening date haven't been announced. K-Cafe Dabang & Lounge is expected at Bellevue Towers, 460 106th Avenue NE, sometime in November, with coffee, matcha, bingsu, small bites and cocktails. No opening day has been set.
The Meadow at 633 110th Avenue NE is the closest open space to the platform. The 1.75-acre public lawn and art installation opened April 27. The Bellevue Downtown Association puts it two minutes on foot from Bellevue Downtown Station, across the street from Bellevue Transit Center. Bus riders should know about a temporary change there. Sound Transit has rerouted Route 556 and three other routes around the transit center during construction, through late December. Route 556 riders headed into Bellevue use a temporary stop on 110th Avenue NE just south of NE 6th Street.
7 p.m. on Bellevue Way
Snowflake Lane runs nightly at 7 p.m. from November 27 through December 24, on Bellevue Way between NE 4th and NE 8th Streets. According to The Bellevue Collection's FAQ, the show lasts about 25 minutes and loops so both sides of the street see it.
The Collection has changed how the east side works this year. Once Bellevue Way closes, blue cones go down on the Lincoln Square side. When the building lights turn blue, guests can step off the curb up to the cone line, and the first row can sit on the ground. On the west side, the Bellevue Square building lights turn red, and the organizer's Know Before You Go page is direct about it:
"Guests must remain on the sidewalk on Bellevue Square side for the duration of the show."
The same page advises against bringing large wagons or strollers because of the crowds. If you're coming by train, the Lincoln Square side is closer to 110th Avenue NE and has more room to stand. Lincoln Square South, with MEAN Sandwich and OAKBERRY inside, is right on the route, so a dinner there can run straight into the show.
At 7 p.m. the shuttle has been off for an hour, and on weekend nights it never ran. The only free ride from the station is BellHop, which runs until 9 p.m. Drivers get free parking at Bellevue Square, Lincoln Square and Bellevue Place. The Collection recommends the Bellevue Place garage under the Hyatt Regency, entered from NE 10th Street.
Under the Lights at Downtown Park
The Bellevue Downtown Ice Rink returns to Bellevue Downtown Park on November 13 and runs daily through January 18, 2027, including Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. On the rink's admission page, tickets including skate rental cost $16 on weekdays, $22 on weekends and $12 on Cheapskate Mondays. November 25 and 26 are charged at the $22 rate, and holiday pricing of $24 applies from December 18 through January 3. Daily hours for the new season haven't been posted yet, so check the rink's site before you go.
On a Monday, a $12 skate costs half the holiday-week price. From the park it's a short walk north to the Lincoln Square side for 7 p.m.
Uphill at Main Street, Until 9 p.m.
Garden d'Lights is the season's farthest stop from the train, and the walk there is uphill. The display runs November 28, 2026, through January 3, 2027, at Bellevue Botanical Garden, 12001 Main Street, and is closed on Christmas Day. According to the Garden's event page:
- Tickets are sold online for a set date and a 30-minute entry window. You can reschedule through your confirmation link, but there are no refunds unless the event is canceled.
- General nights cost $10 for ages 11 and up, and children 10 and under get in free. First entry is 4:30 p.m., last entry is 9 p.m., and the lights go off at 9:30 p.m.
- $5 nights for ages 11 and up are November 30 through December 3 and December 7 through 10. Last entry is 8 p.m. and the lights go off at 8:30 p.m.
- Parking in the Garden's own lot is $5 per vehicle, first come, first served, and the lot often fills. Parking is free at Wilburton Hill Park, a quarter mile east on the south side of Main Street.
- The walk through the display is about three-quarters of a mile on a lit path and takes 30 to 45 minutes on average.
The Garden doesn't publish a walking route from Wilburton Station. Its own directions page lists two bus options. From the nearest Metro Route 220 stop, it's a half-mile walk uphill. From RapidRide B Line, it's three-quarters of a mile with less climbing. BellHop and rideshares can drop you at the Garden's loading zone.
The deadlines line up closely. BellHop stops at 9 p.m., which is also the Garden's last entry on general nights. A 30-minute walk through the lights ends after both. If you're relying on BellHop, an earlier entry window, or a $5 night with its 8 p.m. last entry, leaves time for the ride home.
The Holiday Dates That Change the Clock
Sound Transit's holiday service table changes Link schedules on these dates:
- Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 26: Sunday service.
- Friday, November 27, the night Snowflake Lane opens: Saturday service.
- Christmas Eve, Thursday, December 24, the last parade night: weekday service.
- Christmas Day, Friday, December 25: Sunday service, with the rink open and Garden d'Lights closed.
- New Year's Eve, Thursday, December 31: weekday service, plus extra Link service if resources allow.
- New Year's Day, Friday, January 1, 2027: Sunday service.
BellHop's own holiday schedule shows a 5 p.m. close on Christmas Eve, two hours before the final Snowflake Lane show, and no service on Christmas Day or New Year's Day. That page doesn't give a year, so check it again closer to the dates. The light rail shuttle's funding runs through December, the same month the season peaks. Its weekday hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. stay the same throughout.
Visit Bellevue's October roundup also lists a few openings that are still pending. Wagyu House is aiming to open in the former Din Tai Fung space at Lincoln Square North by the end of 2026, possibly slipping into early 2027. Sushi Tei is listed as coming soon at Bellevue Square. Willie Burton's, the food hall planned at 600 116th Avenue NE in Wilburton, was first announced for summer 2026 and has no new public opening date.
The train now links downtown Bellevue and Seattle, and a quieter weekend across the water is only a little farther. If this season has you thinking about a place on Bainbridge or the Kitsap shore, The Agency Bainbridge Island would be glad to show you how those crossings fit your week.
