Lynwood Center's Evenings Went Dark Two Falls Ago. Here's What Fills Them Now.

"This decision was not made lightly." Marketplace management wrote that on a flyer in the window in October 2024, when the café at Pleasant Beach Village stopped serving in the evening. The flyer blamed inflation, rising operating costs and staffing problems. As of October 13 that year, the Marketplace was open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. only. Joe's Restaurant was temporarily closed, and the wine bar next door was shut for the season.

The Bainbridge Island Review covered those closures and described what was lost. Friday nights at those businesses had been packed, "cocktails flowed and wine poured, kids romped." Two falls later, evenings at Lynwood Center are back, but they work differently. Two venues now run the south end's nightlife, and each one owns certain nights of the week. A fall evening in the village goes better if you know which venue has which night.

How the Lights Came Back On

In December 2024, Alexis Saloutos and Nikos Spiliopoulos became the new owner-operators of the Marketplace. Previous owner John Jacobi said he had bought what was then Blossom Hill out of foreclosure more than a dozen years earlier. The couple said they planned to expand hours, reopen the wine bar, and bring back live music and events.

They had run a restaurant before. According to The Island Wanderer, they had owned Agora, a Mediterranean food, wine and retail shop with a sit-down restaurant, in Seattle since 2007. Before meeting Alexis, Nikos had worked in hospitality in his native Greece. In February 2025, the evening reopening still depended on a state liquor license. The owners said that once the permit came through, they would reopen the wine bar and extend hours to 9 p.m. daily.

The same profile mentioned a hire with a link to the old evening scene. Chef Tim Hart, a former cook at Joe's Restaurant, had moved to the Marketplace. By then the Wanderer was calling Joe's "now shuttered." No source we found reports what has happened to that space since.

The Wine Bar With a New Name

The wine bar that closed for the season in 2024 has reopened as By The Glass. The owners' own announcement describes it as the bar "previously Earth & Vine." The wine list changed along with the name:

"At By The Glass, we're thrilled to share organic, biodynamic, and small-production wines from Greece, sourced through our sister business, Toxo Imports."

The café menu now includes Greek dishes made in house, such as spanakopita, baklava, hummus and tzatziki, plus daily specials and rotating desserts. The Marketplace + By The Glass site lists the coffee bar as open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with dinner daily from 3 to 9 p.m. By The Glass and the Marketplace's full bar are also listed as open daily from 3 to 9 p.m. Under the 2024 schedule, the Marketplace closed at 3 p.m. Now that hour is when dinner and the bars open. Some third-party directories still show the Marketplace closing at 4 p.m., so check the Marketplace's own site before you go.

Saturdays Belong to the Marketplace

The Marketplace's calendar dates the return of live music to Saturday, May 31, 2025, with a set by island musician Mark Soltys. Live music has continued since then, and the fall 2026 bookings are all on Saturday evenings. The calendar lists a performance for tonight, October 3. These are the remaining fall sets at 4738 Lynwood Center Road NE, each from 6 to 8 p.m.:

  • Saturday, October 10: Vanishing Floors
  • Saturday, October 17: Grassquatch Collective
  • Saturday, November 7: Strawberry Milk with Dollarbird

October 10 has music at two venues. That afternoon, the Historic Lynwood Theatre hosts Dana Lyons's "These Songs of Freedom" from noon to 2:30 p.m., with a suggested $10 donation at the door. The concert ends three and a half hours before Vanishing Floors starts at the Marketplace.

Weeknights Belong to the Treehouse

Weeknight evenings mostly happen at the Treehouse Café, which lists hours of 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily at 4569 Lynwood Center Road NE. Its calendar has a weekly event and a monthly one. Trivia Time Live runs every Wednesday from 6:30 to 9 p.m., and a Jazz Jam happens on the last Thursday of each month. The Treehouse has also booked a few one-off nights through November.

Date Day Event Time Notes
Every week Wednesday Trivia Time Live 6:30–9 p.m. Weekly
October 23 Friday Griffin House 7–10 p.m. 21 and over
October 29 Thursday Jazz Jam 7–9 p.m. Monthly, last Thursday
November 14 Saturday 9th Gobblefest Bainbridge Start time not posted Five bands, benefits Helpline House
November 26 Thursday Jazz Jam 7–9 p.m. Also Thanksgiving Day

Two dates on that table differ from the usual pattern. Gobblefest is the one Saturday this fall when the biggest event in the village is at the Treehouse. The 2026 festival is the ninth, with five bands and proceeds going to Helpline House. November's last Thursday is November 26, which is also Thanksgiving. The Jazz Jam is listed for that night at the usual 7 to 9 p.m., so check the calendar again before you go.

Put the two calendars together and the village has something on Wednesday, Saturday, and one Thursday a month, plus the added Friday and Saturday dates above. In fall 2024, by contrast, the Marketplace closed at 3 p.m. every day.

Two Familiar Kitchens, Two New Names

Two more changes in the village are easy to miss because neither restaurant moved. Miguelito's Grill & Cantina in Lynwood Center is now Raíces Cocina & Bar. A local business listing describes it as the "same team, same heart and deeper roots," with a menu that now differs from its sister restaurant, Miguelito's on High School Road. That listing gives Raíces's hours as Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Sawan Thai is now Ginn D Thai, at 4765 Lynwood Center Road NE. The Sawan Thai website still shows the old name, with "Renew Name to" above the Ginn D logo. Neither restaurant has published a date for its name change, and both directory listings are unclaimed. Call either one directly to confirm hours, especially for a Sunday or Monday dinner.

What Isn't Changing on the Road This Fall

The City of Bainbridge Island has started its Lynwood Center Road Non-Motorized Improvements project, which runs from Fletcher Bay Road to Baker Hill Road. The preferred concepts include a separated two-way path, improved crossings and traffic calming. The city's project solicitation scheduled the design contract for September 22, 2026, with a preferred design expected by the end of 2026. Construction is targeted for completion in October and November 2028. This year's Saturday sets and Wednesday trivia nights won't run into any construction. Fall 2027 and 2028 could be different.

At The Agency Bainbridge Island, we follow the south end through weeks like these, from the Saturday sets at the Marketplace to the Wednesday trivia crowd at the Treehouse. If you'd like to talk over what the Lynwood Center Road project or the village's recovered evenings could mean for your own plans, The Agency Bainbridge Island welcomes you to schedule a private consultation.
